Palace on Wheels, a collaboration of the Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation (RTDC) and Indian Railways, was launched in 1982 to promote tourism in Rajasthan. The train was originally composed of the personal cabins of the erstwhile maharajas which were later replaced with the replica carriages to keep up with technological advancements. The train is equipped with state of the art facilities and could house 88 guests in its 14 guest carriages.
